Illuminating the Past to Light the Future
On the eve of the Great Depression in 1928, the Minnesota Historical Society received its first endowment gift. Herschel V. Jones, a publisher and editor, who served on the Society's Executive Council from 1920 until his death in 1928, bequeathed $25,000 "for the purchase of books, pamphlets and manuscripts relating to subjects, individuals and events having a bearing on the history and development of Minnesota." A Unitrust from the DeLeos
Annual donors since 1976, Richard and Shirley decided that they wanted to leave a lasting legacy at the Society.
